Do you enjoy being outdoors? Have you ever wanted to make a difference in your community? The Farmington River Coordinating Committee (FRCC) is seeking volunteers for the summer of 2015 to help preserve and protect the Farmington River, and make it a safe and fun place to recreate on. This is a great opportunity for students to build experience, or for adults to get involved with something they believe in.
These ‘Assistant River Stewards’ will have several responsibilities including:
– Being a presence on the river during busy times
– Teaching proper river etiquette to the various users – fishermen, kayakers, tubers
– Collecting information about users’ experiences on the river
– Reporting any river hazards encountered
– Helping to pick up trash along the river
Volunteers will work as part of a team and report directly to the FRCC’s River Steward. We ask that each volunteer be able to commit to working a minimum of 5 hours per week between Memorial Day and Labor Day. There will be a training session for all hired sometime in May, date TBD.
Although not all of these traits are required, the ideal candidate would have a knowledge of conservation, love to work with others, be a great communicator, possess good judgement and be skilled in either fishing or kayaking. Does this sound interesting to you? If so, please contact the river steward for more information by sending an email to mail@farmingtonriversteward.
See you on the river,
FRCC River Steward
