The season for the Canton High boys basketball team ended Monday night with a 50-45 loss to Waterbury Career Academy in the Class S state tournament quarterfinals inside a packed gymnasium at Canton High School.
Canton trailed by as many as 10 points, falling behind 31-21 in the opening minute of the third quarter. The Warriors pulled to within three to start the fourth quarter and trimmed it to two, 41-39, with 3:47 remaining but never pulled even.
WCA sophomore Marquan Watson scored a game-high 19 points and Jaden Battle had 16 for the No. 23 seeded Spartans (13-10 overall), who are in their second year as a varsity program. Junior Ryan Enns had a team-high 16 for Canton. The Warriors, the No. 2 seed, finished 20-5 overall.
The Canton High girls play Thomaston in the Class S final this weekend at Mohegan Sun Arena. The date and start time of the game will be announced Wednesday.
