Canton Planning and Zoning Commission Expresses Concerns About Potential Density For Route 44 Lots

November 7, 2014 Business No Comments
An aerial view of the property.

When it meets on Nov. 19, the Canton Planning and Zoning Commission will likely continue a discussion on potential density for the Satan’s Kingdom, LLC Property at 674 and 684 Albany Turnpike as well as an abutting piece of land.

The Satan’s Kingdom, LLC, land was the subject of a controversial proposal in which the owner recently sought to change approximately 30 of 39 acres from residential to industrial. That application was subsequently withdrawn and as of late Friday morning, no new application had been filed.

During the controversy, developer Allan Borghesi said developing the land for residential would be a back-up plan. He also clearly stated his intentions to “re-grade” the ridge behind the farm field and home that sits on the front of the property. Borghesi did not immediately return a message left by Canton Compass on Friday.

Art Gallery/Tattoo Parlor Proposed for River Street in Collinsville

A Connecticut-based artist has proposed a gallery and tattoo parlor for a second-floor space in this River Street building.

A Connecticut-based artist has proposed a gallery and tattoo parlor for a second-floor space in this River Street building.

Artist Kevin Stiles is seeking a special permit for an art gallery and tattoo parlor at 5-7 River St. in Collinsville.

According to paperwork filed with the Canton Land Use office, Stiles is looking to occupy approximately 700 square feet on the second floor of the building, above The Village Sweet Shoppe. The vision for the business is to use approximately three quarters of the space as an art gallery. Tattooing would be done behind a screened area, the application states.

Stiles is applying for a special permit in a business zone, a requirement for tattoo parlors under the town’s zoning regulations. The matter is slated to be part of the Planning and Zoning Commission’s agenda on Nov. 19, land-use officials said.

Canton Compass will share more details as they are available.

October 30, 2014 Business, Health, Video No Comments

Master Dominick Violante has taught self defense techniques for decades but over the years he gradually realized that many programs, including his own, were too complicated for those who don’t regularly practice the martial arts.

So Violante developed WAVE (Women Against Violence Everywhere), which is now offered at Avon Kemp & Aikido Academy, the Canton studio run by he and Master Jeanene Violante.

Violante said his past experience is that those taking most classes forget about 80 to 90 percent of what they’ve learned. With the WAVES program most of the techniques consist of just two moves. … Continue Reading
