COLLINSVILLE – While fun should be a key aspect of a Town of Canton Volunteer Fire and EMS Department Open House on Sunday, Oct. 16, it’s really designed to be a multi-faceted event.

There will be plenty for the kids – such as a visit with Sparky and a chance to sit in some impressive vehicles – but the department also plans to showcase vehicles, demonstrate equipment, meet with the public, offer station tours, talk about the various incidents to which they respond, demonstrate a ponding system used when water is scarce due to drought or lack of hydrants, talk about the new paramedic system, offer a live hose demonstration and more.

Set for 10 to 2 p.m. Sunday afternoon, fire officials hope the event will be a chance to educate the public and talk to anyone considering joining the department.

“The biggest thing is to just expose people to what we do and the equipment we utilize,” said Craig Robbins, chief of the town of Canton Volunteer Fire and EMS Department. “I think it’s a lot more involved than people imagine.” … Continue Reading
