(Submitted Release) In the United States, 50 percent of nursing home residents are incontinent. Incontinence can cause skin rashes, falls, isolation and pressure ulcers.  Urinary incontinence is curable in many elderly residents but realistically not all will benefit from an evaluation which can result in the placement of an indwelling catheter. Catheter use increases the risk of life threatening infections, bladder stones and results in resident discomfort.  The use of a bladder scanner can greatly reduce the need for catheters.

“The primary benefit to owning a bladder scanner is preventing unnecessary catheterization, reducing the rate of infection and preserving the resident’s dignity,” said Rebecca Stevenson, Director of Admissions and Marketing. ” More importantly the decreased incidents of infection translates to decreased hospitalizations leading to an improved quality of life for our residents. On behalf of the residents and staff at Cherry Brook, I would like to thank the Rotary Club of Avon-Canton for their $2000 donation towards our new bladder scanner.”
