Police Identify Man Injured in Hit-And-Run Accident near Canton High School

Police have identified the man who was hit by a vehicle on Simonds Avenue near Canton High School Tuesday night.

Mark Barney, 32, of Canton was the person walking a dog shortly after 9 p.m. when he was hit by a vehicle, police said. Barney was flown to Hartford Hospital by LIFE STAR and his condition has been upgraded to non life-threatening injuries at this time, according to a police department release.

The case is under investigation by the Canton Police Department and North Central Municipal Accident Reeconstruction Team and Joshua Lacombe, 26, of 430 Main St., New Hartford was charged with evading responsibility after allegedly leaving the scene. Lacombe has told Canton Compass he wishes not to comment on the case. He was released on a non-surety bond and will appear in court later this month.
