Luna Pizza, Corey Rieman Debut Under 21 Open Mic

SIMSBURY — There’s numerous open mic events in the Farmington Valley but a new once-a-month offering at Luna Pizza specifically caters to youth under the age of 21.

“We want to be an outlet for young musicians and artists,” said host Corey Rieman, who hosted the first event earlier this month.

Rieman, an Avon resident and musician, said the main idea is to give younger musicians a place where they can feel comfortable. Rieman himself plays at some other area mics and said they are all great in their own way but can be overwhelming to younger players, especially those just starting out.

“There’s a ton to learn but it can be intimidating to a young artist,” he said.

He hopes the event at Luna will help those musicians. There will often be a featured performer (s) to help kick the evening off and each event will also feature a visual artist.

The Lisa’s Luna Pizza Under 21 Open Mic takes place the second Saturday of every month from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Signups will be a combination of people who reserve ahead of time through facebook and those who come directly to the event.
