CANTON — Parks and Recreation Department Director Joshua Medeiros is excited about this year’s  expanded summer concert series, which kicks off with the Kenn Morr Band at Mills Pond Park Thursday evening.

This year’s series offers some well-known regional bands, old favorites and an American Idol Alum. Many of the groups are new to the series – or haven’t been there in quite some time.

Medeiros said the goal is to get acts that don’t play in town that often. This year bands include those that play country, folk, rhythm and blues, swing, soul and more.

“We’re trying to offer variety,”  Medeiros said.

Additionally, with the help of some local sponsors, the series runs for 8 weeks this year – rather than the typical 6, and brings some new upgrades and features.

“We’re excited,” Medeiros said. “That really helped us expand the series.”

Those local sponsors include Collinsville Savings Society, Acura of Avon, Cake Gypsy and Mark & Stacey VanDeusen.

Additionally, the Canton Lions Club also installed a new power box, which will provided safer and more reliable electricity for the shows. The Lions Club will again sell food at the shows.

Concerts take place from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursdays at Mills Pond Park. The town hall auditorium is available as backup venue but Medeiros generally tries to reschedule if necessary.

“My preference is to really keep them outside,” Medeiros.

In the event of inclement weather, log on to www.cantonrec.org or on facebook for any cancellations, rescheduling or other changes.

This yer’s shows include:
